Beeley Moor South

Ringcairn

Beeley Moor South I & II, Ringcairns

My second visit to Beeley Moor has gone a long way to my understanding of this area, with its multitude of ringcairns, robbed cairns and circles, which can be confusing.

An exquisite site with fabulous views west towards Bakewell and beyond, extending right round to Beeley Warren in the north.

Both of these circles are smaller than I expected, being between 8m and 10m in diameter, hinting that they may be occupational remains rather than ringcairns. The more northerly ring (I) is very well hidden under the heather and so there is less to see than its southern (II) counterpart where lots more stones are visible in the rubble bank. A possible entrance lies in the northwest section of ring I.

Please note that during my research I found that the names for the Beeley Moor sites were inconsistent and so the naming convention I use here is of my own invention. These same sites may be listed under other names by other authors.
