The Bullring
The Bullring, Henge
From the information I read about the condition of this site and it having been treated as the town dump, I was very pleased to find it cleaned up and a die-cast information sign had been erected in an attempt to educate passers by. In many ways it is a miracle that this site has survived at all, given the proximity of the houses and other buildings, the looming limestone quarry and 19th Century quarries within the banks of the henge itself.
The well-defined bank and ditch of The Bull Ring is very impressive. It is believed that at one time it would have been similar to Arbor Low and would have had some configuration of upright stones too. Unfortunately, no trace of these can be seen today, with the last report of one remaining orthostat being made in the late 18th Century by James Pilkington.
