Hob Hurst’s House

Chambered Tomb

Hob Hurst’s House, Chambered Tomb

This Neolithic chambered tomb predates the extensive Bronze Age activity in this area, therefore it’s easy to conclude that it must still have been of some significance as the Bronze Age builders built all their monuments at levels below that of Hob Hurst’s House. Also, the line of sight to the Neolithic chambered tombs at Minninglow is often very clear and surely no coincidence. Its modern crown of birch trees watches over this landscape far on the south-western horizon

It’s an unusual monument in that the enclosing bank and ditch are roughly square in shape. It is well worth visiting in order to put this landscape into the perspective it thoroughly deserves.
