The Nine Ladies of Stanton Moor

Embanked Stone Circle

The Nine Ladies of Stanton Moor, Embanked Stone Circle

The Nine Ladies are both beautiful and enigmatic. Easy to locate as the network of trails on Stanton Moor are well used and defined. This is a very popular place so expect to see other people around no matter the time of year.

Nine stones stand in a circle, with faint traces of the embankment visible when viewed from the north side. 30m to the southeast is the prominent outlier known as The King Stone, or Fiddler (pictured opposite). All of the stones are of typical height for The Peak, measuring no more than 1m in height.

I have lost track of how many times I have visited this site and each time is as much a delight as the last. The surrounding trees create a magical, relaxing atmosphere. Definitely a showcase site of The Peak District and not to be missed.
